In the end I must question though: If you wanted to play it through the Windows 10 Store, why didn't you purchase it there to begin with? The choice between the Microsoft Store and Steam is a choice between console/semi-PC and full PC gamer. System Era does not have that and getting the game registered in your Steam account means you can play it with nothing but that account. After all the Ubisoft games you purchase on Steam will actually go through UPlay, their own platform (so of course they need to give you a key or let you link the game, which is also an option nowadays). So yeah, Ubisoft isn't really an example that works here, though. That way you'd basically get the game 2 times.
